Steve Brown

After secondary school I attended college and studied Fine Art, Art History and
Photography. Furthering my artistic development, depth of understanding and
exposure to mixed media. Unable to self fund further development, I entered
healthcare, where my caring and creative nature gifted me the ability to connect
with others in need.
After many years in healthcare, 10 of which were Emergency Ambulance Service, I
had cumulative traumatic experiences and was encouraged by my wife to get back
into art again and undertook a Diploma in Children’s illustration, returning to
my artistic journey via another avenue.
I have now been a successful Children’s Book Illustrator for the past 9 years and am
currently represented by The Bright Agency in the UK and New York. I have had the
pleasure of working with many publishers, Scholastic, and Hachette to mention a
few, and find myself collaborating with Jeffery Archer, on an exciting project!
In recent years the desire to create art has become an unyielding obligation to
myself to explore the inner mechanism of my creative consciousness. It is a cathartic
outlet for me emotionally and spiritually.
My art is a highly-personal reflection of myself. I am motivated by Music, Movies and
Nature, everything I do is fuelled by energy.
I have several styles; Abstract, contemporary, urban, and graphic style. Using
various textures on the canvas to enhance my expression.
I can often be seen creating my art at home, listening to music. The music inspires
me with the flow and vibrations, unearthing emotions from within.
When Creating my Music and movie icon artwork, I immerse myself in their movies
and music, deep diving into their lives as much as possible to create the right
emotions, energy and feeling for that painting.
I allow the music to flow through me to the canvas, I have a very rough initial idea of
what I want, but it will generally take its own path during its creation, and I tend to
just work with feeling rather than thinking too much about it.
I prefer to work on a large scale as I am quite expressive when painting and find I
can do that with bigger artwork.
I love colour and use a lot of it in my work, be it abstract or more pop/contemporary.
