What inspired the Artist to create this piece: Initially I was imagining a street behind this figure of the woman, but the feeling of lights and reflections in water took over. The smooth surface and multiple layers were achieved by sanding back, repainting, sanding back again, sometimes leaving thicker markings to dry so that the sanding back partially revealed colours whilst others remained hidden. The confidence of the subject is in defiance of how many women feel in the street at night; wary, cautious, alert. Friday night should just be about Friday night, after all.
