The Sussex Beacon is a charity that offers help to those living with HIV by providing services tailored to meet the needs of those living with the disease. The Sussex Beaocn relies heavily on donations, so please donate to this wonderful charity either at our gallery in Duke's Lane or by clicking the link below.
What We Do
The Sussex Beacon provides specialist care and support for people living with HIV. Our services promote independence and improve health and wellbeing by providing inpatient and outpatient services.
Our services are run from our centre in Brighton where we have a 10-bed inpatient unit, therapy rooms and larger rooms for group work. We also have a landscaped garden for patients and visitors to enjoy all year round. We aim to provide high-quality care and support in a friendly and homely environment.
How We Do It
Referrals to our inpatient unit are accepted from health and social care professionals and are mainly funded by the local NHS for people living with HIV in Sussex. Out of area referrals are funded through the individual’s local health or social care provider. Some of our outpatient services can also be accessed by self-referral.
We work in close partnership with other healthcare providers and our patients and clients to make sure that our services remain relevant to the changing needs of people living with HIV. Our work is funded by statutory bodies and a range of fundraising activities including trusts, events, and trading in our charity shops.
Jack Lynn's LGBTQ Lives Collection has been in great demand. The opportunity came about to have the much-loved drag queens of Brighton to sign a limited print run of themselves which, when sold, £10 from each piece is donated to The Sussex Beacon.
The Brighton Box is a registered local collection point for all expired or empty ink cartridges to be disposed of. We encourage everyone to use this free service not only to save the environment from the hazardous chemicals that pose a threat to marine life, but each cartridge that is sent away provides a donation to The Sussex Beacon.
Most ink cartridges equate to £1 or more being donated, so please tell your friends and family about the service that we now able to provide, and together we can make a difference!
Unfortunately, we are not able to send laser or toner cartridges using this facility. Please make your own arrangements for safe disposal of these products.
A local cause of The Brighton Box is proud to support is Peyton's Wheelchair Fund.
The Brighton Box has partnered with Affinity Bar to provide a large array of items to be included in the auction, which is being hosted at The Brighton Box and will also be availability interactively online with Presenter and Auctioneer, Stephanie Von Clitz.
